Yup. I had to make another one.
Modified yet again...this time I added a little more fabric to the centre front, and moved the main bust dart over and down by about 2.5 cm, as well as adding a little more length to the bodice and sleeve. The fit on the front is better, but still not perfect! I may yet move the ties up a little. We'll see. I'll have to wear it for a day and see how it feels.
The fabric is a Kaffe Fassett fabric I bought originally in March thinking I'd make some Thai fisherman style pants from it for MQX, for the banquet. That plan was scrapped after I made a tester in other fabric - the fit was not as flattering as I'd hoped (even though they are mostly a wrapped pant). The tester pair make wonderful, supremely comfortable pajamas. My husband does have a little laugh when I'm out in the yard in them though...should I have made them from something that doesn't have skulls all over it? Hmmm.
I'll have to remember for future projects to take fabric weight more into account. I probably could have made this shirt in this fabric using the original pattern width (but still moving the dart) and have had it fit much better than the first one, anyway. The first copy was done in very stable quilting cotton, whereas this one is a soft yarn dyed cotton. This one has got by far superior drape, and much more stretch. The newest version is coming closer to a Western silhouette, though. With the longer sleeve and body, the lower than empire waist...well, let's just say it's losing some of it's 'oriental-ness'. I would love to make a pair of pajama style drawstring 3/4 length pants to go with it though, in similar weight (but solid colour) fabric. It'd probably be the ultimate summer clothing.
It was nice to take a couple of hours last night to do something just for me in amongst all the customer work I've been doing lately, but I do pay for the lack of sleep - no doubt about it. It's almost enough to make a girl start drinking coffee...okay, maybe not THAT bad.
OH - and all those lovers of clean clothing will be glad to know that our washer arrived yesterday and DH installed it! Hooray!
Y'all should know that I DIDN"T get the beautiful Korean Samsung Liberace edition shown at left. I got a good ol' top loading Kenmore. I just had to include the photo here of this wild and wonderful appliance.
I have a hunch that anyone who could afford this washing machine could afford to have someone else do their laundry for them. They could go visit it, now and then...in the laundry annex of their mansion...
May all your whites be bright,
Lisa

This looks like a top you wore to MQX. That top looked great on you - very flattering. I love this fabric!
gorgeous fabric Lisa! you did a great job!
That top is gorgeous!
Thanks so much! It's really got to be the most comfortable thing in the world to wear...and it's a little flippy, a little fitted, but because it's only tied in two spots, it seems to change shape when I do (eating, moving). I've already figured out what I'll be doing for the next one...
:)
