A Needle Pulling Thread, New Panto Pattern

It's taken me a little while to get this on here - what with the holiday season and all - but here it is:

This is the cover of the issue that my project is in! I walked into my Overwaitea yesterday and saw it on the shelf. I wonder if the excitement of having a project published wears off? I've been anticipating this for months - so much so that it's strangely anticlimactic having it finally out. All the work that I did was 'way back in the summer for this (talk to me sometime about trying to find beautiful Christmas prints in August...). It's interesting that most of the 'major' publicity work that I did over the course of last year all came out the week before Christmas. I guess I'll have to work on my timing!

Anyhoo - the project is called 'Noelle', and is a little angel wall hanging. I hope you like it.

On another note, Jodi Beamish released a new panto pattern yesterday on my behalf, Cumulus. It's based on a freehand cloud pattern that is very popular with my customers on their 'woodsy/outdoorsy' or star and sky quilts. It's fully interlocking with a two row repeat. The clouds in it are sunny day clouds, I find them kind of cheerful.

Well, I'm back to work on Zoe's quilt. It's almost done. I was having a little bit of thread tension trouble, but think it's working now. It's good to get back to stitching after a break.

Busy day!

Yesterday was tremendously busy. Aside from mailing out my last quilt for the year, I worked my 'other' job at the school delivering the Roots of Empathy program. I work in the grade seven classes at our school with two teachers who have been gracious enough to share their precious classroom time. In one class we talked about diapering -what a riot! The students ask really good questions, and challenge me to be clear, concise and straightforward. In the other class we had our parent/child come to visit. The baby in that class is 3 months old now, and we got to see how much stronger and capeable he is this month than last month. The unit we're doing in that class is centred on crying as a means of communication, and the students and parent had a really good question/answer period about crying and strategies that deal with crying.
In between classes at the school, I was here with our local newspaper editor talking about my shop, quilting and design business. I had a project come out in the Festive Issue of A Needle Pulling Thread magazine - which arrived day before yesterday! This is the first time I've had something published in a nationally distributed magazine! Needless to say I've been walking about 2" above the ground. It looks like the article that he's doing is going to come out in next week's or the following week's paper.
We had one of our son's Christmas Concerts last night. What fun. It was great to see everyone from the community out! Our other son's concert is tonight, then only a few more sleeps (in our youngest's words) until the big day!

Stitch Journeys

Hah! It was in my mailbox today! A book about how to use WonderFil specialty threads called "Stitch Journeys"...I've been looking forward to the release of this book for many reasons - one of which is that I got to contribute some photos and tips to it...there's the little quilt on P.19! That little quilt now lives at the main office of WonderFil in Calgary, and gets to travel around to different shows with them throughout the continent. It's so exciting to see it in print! There are lots of projects and ideas in it... it's a great 'how to' book for techniques of all kinds from free motion quilting and embroidery to art stitching and thread as structure. Super cool. I have a few copies available in the store (link at left), and one copy for little 'ol me.

Is all press good press?

In the last few days Jodi Beamish has submitted a pattern on my behalf to accompany her article in Unlimited Possibilities magazine. I'm totally excited to have the opportunity to do this- the pattern is called "Candle Glow" and is included free to subscribers. Nope, no photos...you'll have to get your own copy!

It's been a big year for me, press wise. Aside from continuing to write articles for Connections-For Quilters! , a BC wide inter-guild newsletter, I've been lucky enough to have my work featured on the cover of, and in, this year's calendar by Connections, have a pattern coming out in the next issue of canadian needlework magazine "A Needle Pulling Thread" ( a little sneak peek of the project is in their current issue), done two quilts for the lovely folks over at WonderFil threads for their display purposes (one of those quilts is included in the book "Thread Journeys, your passport to working with WonderFil threads to be published in the next month or so), and now this opportunity with Unlimited Possibilities. Exciting stuff!

On the home front, however, youngest son and I are recovering from a nasty bout of tummy 'flu. Today is the first day that I've felt half human and am glad to be getting back on my feet again!
